The Abington-Cheltenham-Jenkintown Area

The League of Women Voters of Abington-Cheltenham-Jenkintown Area is a local league of the League of Women Voters of the United States. We are a nonpartisan political grassroots organization that believes the freedom to vote is a nonpartisan issue. For more than a century, the League has worked to empower voters and defend democracy. As a women-led organization, we encourage everyone to take part in our democracy.

We encourage informed and active participation in government. Over the last century, we have fought for election protection, democratic reforms, and equal access to the ballot all while maintaining our commitment to nonpartisanship and fostering an informed electorate.

Our mission is to empower voters and strengthen democracy.  We salute the voters, poll workers, ballot counters and other election officials who persevere throughout every election cycle. Their efforts both echo and reaffirm the work of previous generations who have struggled to preserve democracy for us all.

Harrisburg, PA – Today, Governor Josh Shapiro signed into law a bipartisan budget for fiscal year 2024-25 that delivers on his top priorities and creates more freedom and opportunity for all Pennsylvanians. With historic investments in education, economic development, law enforcement and violence prevention, workforce development, affordable housing, health care, public transit and infrastructure, and much more – this budget invests in the people of Pennsylvania and solves some of the most pressing issues our Commonwealth faces.

It’s been a busy few weeks in the PA House, with more focus on legislative rules than we would have thought possible. The outcome is not perfect, but it is an encouraging step toward a more responsive legislative process.
